ANNUAL DADS v COACHES GAMES RAISES MONEY FOR LAUREN JONES
FOUNDATION TRUST

This year
the annual Dads v Coaches game took place under flood lights at
Worthing FC's
ground in Woodside Road on 30 September. As can be seen from the
enclosed photos, the abundance of grey (or lack of) hair in the dads
team gave the Coaches quite an age advantage and they managed to
build an early lead. However, the Dads managed to fight back in the
second half to make the score respectable with the coaches ending up
as 7-4 winners. Graham Bull may not be photogenic, but knows how to
score, bagging 4 goals for the Coaches. It was a really enjoyable
evening and the event raised £120 for the Lauren Jones Foundation
Trust.
NEW CONTACTS FOR CLUB SHOP
Please note that the club shop will now be run by Carli Bourne
and Sam Kelly. If you wish to order items, please contact
them by email -
carlibourne@hotmail.co.uk or
samk732002@yahoo.co.uk.
Alternatively, both will be present at the Mini-Soccer Centre
held on Saturday mornings at Chatsmore School where they are
happy to take orders in person.
The club would like to thank Sarah Thompson for all of her hard
work in running the club shop for the last three years.
CLUB HOSTS FA "COACH THE COACHES" SESSION
On 25 July, the club welcomed Ben Bartlett, FA Regional Coach
Development Manager (5-11), South East. Ben ran a training
session for a group of 8 and 9 year olds watched by a group of
club coaches.
The session was organised by Kevin Tharme, Sussex FA County
Development Manager who was also in attendance. At
the end of the session , Ben hosted a question and answer
session with the coaches. Feedback from the session was
extremely positive with lots of good ideas about coaching in the
younger age-groups taken on board. The club wishes to
extend thanks to Ben and Kevin for their time and assistance in
helping to develop our coaches.
FREE GIRLS TASTER SESSION

Worthing Town Girls FC are looking for new players for the
coming season.
We
will be running teams at U11 (inc. U10's), U12, U13 and U15 so
we can offer opportunities for girls in school years 5-10 to
play.
On
Wednesday 29th July, we will be holding a FREE taster session at
Palatine Park
between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. If you would like to come
along, please contact the club by calling Tony on 07766
273873 or
sending an email to
tonylelliott@hotmail.com to reserve your place.
REMEMBER - This is not a trial - all abilities are welcome.
All you need is enthusiasm!

11 GIRLS RUNNERS-UP AT OAKWOOD TOURNAMENT

Well done to the U11 Girls who came runners-up at the Oakwood
Tournament on 19 July. The girls finished with an
impressive record of W4, D1 and lost 2.
They were also the highest scoring team in the competition with
12 goals; Chloe finishing as top scorer with 8.
NEW MALE UNDER 15 PLAYERS REQUIRED
Worthing Town Youth FC U15s 'A' require 2 or 3 good quality
players for next season with top quality training twice a week.
Please contact Steve on 07828-182318. Training starts 29th July
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING BRINGS CHANGE OF NAME
The club AGM was held on 16th July. This season, the club
has affiliated with Sussex County FA as Worthing Town FC in
addition to our three other affiliations, Worthing Town Youth
FC, Worthing Town Ladies FC and Worthing Town Girls FC.
The name of the club itself will be changed to Worthing Town FC.
This allows the club to properly reflect the range of players in
our teams.
The following were elected to serve on the Executive Committee
during 2009-2010
Ian Stewart (Chairman), Tony Lelliott (Vice Chairman), Elvira
Stewart (Club Secretary) and Kevin Cooper (Treasurer).
Other Committee members will be announced in due course.
TOURNAMENT 2010
Following the success of this years events, the club Tournament
Committee met to begin the planning process for next years
events. With Worthing Leisure Centre not accepting any
youth football tournaments next year, some changes would be
necessary. It has been decided that the club will run a
three day tournament over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend - that
is 29th, 30th and 31st May 2010. The event will once again
be at Palatine Park. This gives us the opportunity to grow
the event into one of the biggest and best around. Watch
this space for further details.
SUMMER TOURNAMENT

July 4th and 5th saw the final club event of the year with our
Summer tournament being held at Palatine Park. Saturday
saw male competitions at U15, U16, U18 and Over 35's. The Vets
competition is particular was very well received with lots of
positive comments made. In the end, Rustington Otters won
the event.
On
Sunday, it was the turn of the Girls and Ladies event with
competitions at U11, U13, U14, U16 and Open Age. The Ladies
event saw 17 entries which is a fantastic number.
RECORD NUMBERS
2008-2009 drew to a close with the last training sessions of the
season held on 27th June (although we still have the summer
tournament taking place on 4th-5th July). At that date,
the number of playing members had reached a record 443 making us
by far the largest football provider in Worthing.
Registration has already started for 2009-2010 with over 200
forms returned to the club already.
ADULT TEAM TAKE PART IN WORTHING FC TOURNAMENT
This year the club entered a team into the Worthing FC
tournament finishing with a respectable record of P7, W3,
D3 L1 (against the eventual winners). Well done to Phil,
Graham, Chris, Eric, Tony, Mark, Owen and Lewis.
COMING TO A SCHOOL FETE NEAR YOU!
This summer, as part of our Community Programme, the club has
been attending a number of local school fetes and running target
shoot-out competitions. All of the profits from these
events go to the schools themselves. In addition, we will
be present at Worthing's first ever National Play Day event
which takes place on Broadwater Green on Wednesday 5th August.
For more information about this event, please see the following

MINI SOCCER CENTRE TASTER SESSION A SUCCESS
The Mini Soccer Centre got off to a fantastic start with nearly
90 children attending our recent open day and taster session at
Chatsmore School. The event, together with the
accompanying leaflet drop has attracted nearly 100 new players
to the club. The MSC brings all mixed mini-soccer training
together in a single location.
UNDER 12 GIRLS AT SOVEREIGN SAINTS TOURNAMENT

After a long hard league season, the Under 12 Girls had just the
answer with a great performance at the Sovereign Saints
tournament. The girls won three out of four matches
played, only losing to the eventual winners Rottingdean.
Congratulations to the team for an excellent performance.
SECOND "BIG KIDS TOURNAMENT A SUCCESS

Last Saturday (2nd May), it was the turn of the adults with the
second annual "Big Kids Tournament once again sponsored by NSure.
9 teams made up of dads, coaches and managers
from the various teams in the club participated in a 5 a side
competition in glorious sunshine at the Glyn Owen Centre
The ‘Ladies’ beat the ‘Under 11s’ in the final 3-2 with Sam Gill
scoring his second goal of the game to clinch the win in extra time
It was a fun day with all the games played in a great
spirit and gave the oldies the chance to
show the kids how it should or shouldn’t be done! The winning
‘Ladies’ team had the advantage of
including a few younger boyfriends and partners in their team, but
having to put up with shouts of ‘come on ladies’ did sound odd.
PARTNERSHIP WITH THOMAS A BECKET SCHOOL DELIVERS TOURNAMENT
FOR GIRLS
Last Thursday (30th April), the club organised an eight team
tournament for girls in school years 5, 6 and 7. The event was
hosted by Thomas a Becket school. The club ran the event on the day
and provided goals, referees trophies and programmes. The
event was a great success and was eventually won by Orchards School.
The event was a great success and the intention is to make this an
annual event.
UNDER 12A TEAM CLINCH DIVISION C TITLE
Congratulations to the U12A team who have clinched the
ACYFL Division C Championship. The trophy went down to the
last match but with their closest rivals unable to win their
last fixture, the boys were finally able to celebrate.
With a final record of 15 wins, 2 draws and just 3 defeats, the
team have done themselves proud over the course of the season.
UNDER 11A TEAM WIN CHALLENGE CUP (19/04/09)
This afternoon, the Under 11A team completed a memorable double
with the addition of the ACYFL U11 Challenge Cup to their
Division B title which was secured last weekend.
The game against Worthing Dynamos FC was a closely fought
encounter which ended 1-1. Neither side was able to find a
winner in extra time and Town eventually won the penalty
shootout 3-1.
The parents and players of both teams ensured that the game,
which was played at Arundel FC was played in a great atmosphere
throughout.
MINI-SOCCER CENTRE
Starting 2009-2010, the
club will be expanding and improving our provision for younger
players through the introduction of our Mini-Soccer Centre on
Saturday mornings at Chatsmore Catholic High School. The
Centre will host training sessions for all teams in the U6, U7,
U8, U9 and U10 age groups.
We will be holding an Open Day/Taster session for prospective
new players at Chatsmore on Saturday 9th May from 09:30 -
11:00. This will be open to boys and girls who will
be in school years 1 to 5 during 2009-2010.
Players will be able to take part in fun football activities
while parents can chat to and get information from club
officials as well as representatives from Sussex County FA and
the Portsmouth FC Academy.
